About
The Innovation Brief
The Innovation Brief is run by students from National Law University Delhi, with institutional support from the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC).
The Innovation Brief is a student-run blog backed by the CIIPC. It carries short, argued pieces on intellectual property, technology and competition law.
Its emblem is taken from the ruined theatre at Sybaris, the Greek city in southern Italy whose wealth gave English the word sybarite. Athenaeus, quoting the historian Phylarchus, records that a cook in Sybaris who invented a new dish had the sole right to prepare it for a year. Historians of intellectual property often cite the rule as the first patent.
What we publish
The Brief is arranged in four subjects.
- Technology. On developments in technology and innovation and the legal issues arising from their creation, ownership, use and commercialisation.
- Markets. On the role of businesses, consumers and market forces in shaping innovation, competition and commercial activity.
- Governance. On the role of governments, regulators and other institutions in regulating technology, innovation and their wider effects.
- Courts. On the role of courts and adjudicatory bodies in interpreting and applying the law to new technologies, markets and disputes.
