Write for the Brief

Pieces of 800 to 1,500 words on intellectual property, technology and competition law.

Scope

The Brief takes submissions on intellectual property, technology and competition law. While the blog is primarily law-focused, we accept written submissions across all disciplines as long as they fall within the broad ambit of the intersection between technology, innovation and law.

How to submit

Please use the submission form to send your manuscript. Submissions made any other way will not be considered.

Length and content

Submissions must be between 800 and 1,500 words; longer pieces may be considered in exceptional circumstances. We encourage authors to take up new issues and coming developments, or to approach settled ones from an angle the literature has not explored.

Formatting

  • All submissions must be in Times New Roman, font size 12, spacing 1.5, Margins: 1 inch on all sides.
  • Authors are requested to adhere to the British spellings as set out in the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
  • Title must be bold and underlined. First-level headings must be in bold. Second-level headings must be in italics. Formatting of headings and sub-headings must be done in the “Normal” style and not under the “Heading” styles. The first letter of each word in the heading should be capitalised.
  • The relevant references must be hyperlinked. Footnote references (if necessary) must conform to the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).
  • The Oxford comma must be used for three or more elements.
  • Case names must be in italics, with v. rather than vs. (for example, Novartis v. Union of India & Others).
  • Abbreviations must be defined in round brackets on first use, for example Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).
  • Quotations must be italicised to distinguish them from the author's own text.
  • Dates must be written in the form 15 May 2025.
  • Use of the symbols § and ¶ should be avoided. Instead, “sections” and “paragraphs” are to be written in full text, except when referencing paragraphs in judgments.
  • All entries should be submitted in .doc or .docx format.

Conditions of publication

  • Co-authorship of a maximum of two authors is permitted.
  • The submission for publication should be an original work of the author and should not have been published previously or currently submitted for publication to any other platform.
  • The author is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the statement of facts, opinions or views in the submission.
  • Please note that submissions not conforming to the Formatting Guide may be rejected at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to suggest substantive changes to the submissions, in which case the board holds the final discretion to accept or reject submissions at a later stage.
  • Authors are requested not to reveal their names or institutions in the manuscript.
  • The Editorial Board would perform a similarity and artificial intelligence check for the manuscript using the Turnitin software.
  • Copyright of all blog posts shall remain with The Innovation Brief.
  • All moral rights shall vest with the author(s).
  • Authors shall be informed of the status of their submission within fourteen (14) days. In case there is no reply from the side of the Editorial Board during this period, you may consider sending an email to innovationbrief.blog@nludelhi.ac.in seeking an update on the progress.
  • Submissions not in conformity with these guidelines may be rejected at the sole discretion of the Editorial Board. In case of any dispute or ambiguity, the decision of the Editorial Board shall be final and binding.

Review

  • The author will receive an automated response on submission of the form. The submitted manuscript would be allotted to editors from the Student Editorial Board for review.
  • The editors may take up to 10 days to respond to the submission via email. The process may involve multiple rounds of review, comments, and feedback from the student editors and authors.
  • The Innovation Brief does not allow cross-publication. The submission of the same piece to any other platform during any part of the review process without intimation may be dealt with strictly at the discretion of The Innovation Brief Board.
  • All submissions would be subject to an assessment for plagiarism and use of artificial intelligence using Turnitin. Submissions breaching the internal limit for either or both shall not be considered for publication.
